Just like living in a house, living in an apartment has its pros and cons. Pro: When your toilet is backed up because your guest decided to flush paper towels do it, your not the one who is responsible for getting the toilet fixed. Con: Your apartment walls can be so thin, you can hear your next-door neighbor’s thoughts.
Most of my life I have lived in an apartment, and while one day I hope to have the big beautiful house with the white picket fence, for now, I have to learn how to enjoy this tempory space to the fullest.
Today I’m going to give you a few tips and hacks I’ve picked up over the years on how to decorate your apartment and make it really feel like your home. Don’t worry about having an angry landlord, everything I’m going to go over is easily reversible.
Add Art To Your Walls
Its like clockwork, every apartment I’ve ever had has always had the same bare eggshell white walls. Empty white spaces don’t make for a homey feel. Hanging a few paintings or other artwork you may like is a great way to mark your territory and make your apartment feel like yours.
Pro tip: Even if you have been ok’d by your landlord to use nails on your walls, I always opt for non-damaging removable adhesives to hang up my artwork.
Paint Your Walls
An even better option from hanging artwork is to paint your walls a brand new color. This is a definite way to spruce up your apartment and bring it to life. Be sure to check with your landlord beforehand. You want your deposit back when its time to move out. Also, be sure to grab a can of the correct white paint, so you can have it on hand when its time to paint your walls back to its original color
Upgrade Your Kitchen Faucet
Most apartments have a standard kitchen faucet, nothing too fancy. By upgrading your facuet you can be sure that your kitchen will feel more modern and up to date.
Most kitchen faucet installations are not difficult. Again, you might want to check with your landlord before making this upgrade.
Switch Out Your Blinds
Nothing says “basic apartment!” like your standard cheap window blinds. You can really make a difference by replacing your window blinds with some roman shades or better yet, bamboo blinds. bamboo blinds may seem expensive but they are actually very cheap. What I love most about them is that they limit the amount of sun that shines through without fully blocking it out. They can really make any room feel like your sitting next to the beach.
If you have difficulty changing out your window treatment, you can always try wrapping your windows with beautiful unique curtain panels.
Pro tip: Always keep track of your original window blinds so you can easily put them back up when its time to move out.

Add Vanity Lighting To Your Bathroom
Are you ready to upgrade your bathroom, taking it to the next level? Then you should try adding vanity lighting to your bathroom. Most bathroom vanity lights won’t break the bank and are simple to install. Most come with step by step instructions, but if you are like me and don’t want to risk it, you can always hire a professional.

Switch Your Kitchen Hardware & Knobs
An often overlooked way to show a little bit of your creativity and personality is to swap out the knobs on your kitchen drawers and cabinets.
Most kitchen knobs that come standard in your regular apartment are usually cheap and ugly. Don’t be scared to let your creativity shine. Try to mix and match different types for a distinct feel.

Bring Life Your Home With Plants
This tip is one I just started doing myself. If you really want to make your apartment fell very homey, simply adding some greenery (trees, plants, flowers, etc..) around will do the trick. You’ll be amazed how a little bit of green can breathe life into an entire room. Plants are the ultimate game-changer when it comes to upgrading your apartment. On top of sprucing up your home, plants will help clean and purify your air.
I hope these tips and tricks help you upgrade your apartment rental and make it homier. Do you have any tips that we didn’t cover? Let us know in the comments!
